HUGE news for US Space & Rocket Center

You know it’s a big deal when the Alabama Governor and her entourage shows up at the state’s largest tourist attraction to hand out grant money.

That’s just what happened recently when Governor Kay Ivey handed a $10 million symbolic check to Dr. Deborah Barnhart to fund an expansion of their campus, as well as starting a new program for high school students that could grow substantially over the next few years.

The U.S. Cyber Camp is the latest collaborative effort between the U.S. Space and Rocket Center, the University of Alabama Huntsville and Cyber Huntsville. This new program joins the highly successful Space Camp, Aviation Challenge and Space Camp Robotics.

In July, 32 students from around Alabama were the first to be chosen by their teachers to be the in the first Cyber Security class. Governor Ivy and Dr. Barnhart say this money will allow students to become more aware of the new and exciting field of cyber security, which is one of the fastest growing job opportunities available around the world.

Nexus Energy Center is very proud of this huge contribution that will ensure the future success of USSRC. Nexus Energy Center Founder, Ruchi Singhal says:

“Dr. Barnhart and her entire team are laying the foundation for the future. We are so proud and fortunate to be a part of this organization and their forward way of thinking about how important education is for students across the state, country and world.”

This grant is the largest single grant presented to the USSRC! We are excited to see our community growing in a positive and sustainable way!
