Nexus Energy Center holds grand opening with U.S. Space & Rocket Center

Nexus Energy Center celebrated our move to the U.S. Space & Rocket Center with a grand ribbon cutting ceremony last Thursday.

With the help of the USSRC, Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce, Madison Chamber of Commerce, and Mayors Tommy Battle and Troy Trulock, Nexus officially opened our doors at our new office space, located in the ETF Building on the Space & Rocket Center’s campus.

Plans were also announced for Nexus Energy Center to begin helping the facilities around campus become more energy efficient.

“The Space and Rocket Center has to be open. They have to run, and they have to be comfortable. But that doesn’t mean they have to break the bank to do it,”says Nexus Executive Director Ruchi Singhal.

Benefit Night with Old Black Bear Brewing a success

We are so thankful to everyone who came out for our Benefit Night with Old Black Bear Brewing Company!

We had loads of fun, AND the best part is we managed to bring in one of the biggest Thursday night crowds to Old Black Bear since their opening in November!

We’ll definitely be doing this again, so stay tuned for
announcements regarding our next event.

And last but not least, we would certainly like to say a big thank you to WHNT-19’s Megan Brantley for serving as our emcee! Megan definitely brought a spark to the evening and we truly appreciate her taking the time out of her hectic schedule to be with us.

Nexus undertakes biggest Comfort Project to date
Executive Director Ruchi Singhal consults with a Comfort Project client in 2013

It’s February, so you know what that means – cold temperatures and HIGH utility bills.

But Nexus hopes to change that for one Huntsville resident through our Comfort Project, an ongoing program focused on helping underserved and fixed-income homeowners make energy efficiency upgrades.

This Comfort Project home is different than previous participants because this homeowner has been living with no central heating or air conditioning. As you can probably imagine, this has made the cold winter months almost unbearable. But with our upgrades, she will be living more comfortably AND affordably.

The efficiency upgrades that will be implemented into this home include insulation in the floor and attic, air sealing, a new vapor barrier, removal of an old window air conditioning unit, and installing a brand new mini split heat pump. The mini split will serve as the home’s new main source of heating and air.

Comfort Projects like this are only made possible through the support of subscribers like you. Please consider donating to the Comfort Project and help make this winter more comfortable for those most in need.
