Nexus Energy Center kicks off Earth Month with USSRC

April is Earth Month, and we started it off right at our Earth Day celebration on April 2nd!

We were joined by several earth-friendly and educational groups, covering topics from wildlife and renewable energy to water conservation and composting.

In addition to the educational exhibitors, the Nexus Tiny Green Home was also open for touring, as well as a Tesla Motors Model S sedan (a huge hit with attendees, especially with all the recent buzz generated by Tesla’s big announcement). Kids were able to run off all their excess energy (see what we did there!) with other activities like a human powered smoothie bike, a moon bounce, sidewalk chalk drawing, and of course all of the regularly offered exhibits at the space museum.

“Since the missions of Nexus Energy Center and the U.S. Space & Rocket Center include educating the public about different fields of science like aerospace, energy, the environment and other areas, putting on this partnered event just made perfect sense for us. This will certainly become an annual event for our organizations, and we can’t wait to grow it and make it even better next year,” says Nexus executive director Ruchi Singhal.

Join Nexus Energy Center for “An Evening in the Cove”

On June 25th, dine with us under the stars in the  natural beauty of McMullen Cove for our hallmark  summer event, An Evening in the Cove. This  event will be an exclusive farm to table dining  experience, providing a unique dining  venture while teaching guests about the  importance of environment sustainability. We  chose McMullen Cove’s breathtaking atmosphere  as the perfect backdrop for such an occasion,  surrounding guests with the natural beauty of  Alabama’s mountains and valleys.

This special event will raise environmental  awareness while cultivating a strong sense of  community. This multi- course menu will be crafted from only the finest local ingredients, provided by community farmers and suppliers. Diners will enjoy a delicious meal created by local chef and restaurant owner, Margaret Baggett. Margaret operates Hampton Cove’s very own The Chef Next Door, providing the community with delicious, freshly prepared southern fare. After training under one of Birmingham’s top chefs and graduating at the top of her class from the Culinary Institute of Virginia College, she developed a very strong background in fine-dining cuisine and catered functions. Margaret combines her knowledge, skills, and creativity to deliver a one-of-a-kind dining experience to her clients.
