How to save energy in the office

When you run a business, you have to take into consideration different types of costs. Energy costs contribute significantly to your business’s financial bottom, regardless of its size.  In an ecologically-minded society like ours, there are lots of ways to save energy in the office. In this way, you can also save money and of course, your carbon footprint and greenhouse gas emissions are reduced.

Here are some simple energy saving tips. Following them is really the first step.

Choose natural lighting

During the day, when the weather is fine, try to use natural light as much as possible. According to statistics, if you turn off one fluorescent light for an hour a day the annual production of carbon dioxide emissions will be reduced by 30 kg.

Lights off

Do you know that lighting accounts for up to 15% of your electricity bill? But what will happen if you encourage everyone in the office to switch lights off when they are not in use? The energy consumption with its analog cost will be reduced. In order to conserve electricity, create an office policy adapting smart tips and rules:

  • Install motion sensors that detect movement and infrared sensors that detect body heat in little-used hallways or common areas
  • Put signs next to light switches. Signs will remind people to turn off lights when they are going to be out of there for longer than a few minutes at a time or they leave the office.

Reduce the use of paper

Offices in the United States use more paper than ever before. What if I revealed to you that almost 800 thousand photocopies are being made every minute! The wasteful paper use has a tremendous impact on the environment. Each piece of paper is made from a tree felled that naturally absorb carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gasses. Consequently, more harmful gasses will stay in the atmosphere.

Ride the bike

You have a bike…you can change your life! The number of people cycling to work has been increased in recent years. There are numerous benefits of riding into work instead of driving or using public transport. In this way, you miss the traffic, train your body, save the planet and of course money.

Commuting to work can be enjoyable!

Use recycled materials

Buy recycled paper and office products made of plastic for short life disposable. It is a smart way to use recycled materials in your office.

Putting these notions into practice is the main problem….but you are the boss!
