Tiny Green Home goes completely off-grid!

Thanks to our friends at Project XYZ, the Tiny Green Home is officially off-grid!

While the actual panels were installed last summer, the wiring and final hook-up were completed the last week of February.

The tiny house is outfitted with two 250-watt panels (one on the roof and one on the rear side), which is enough to power the little structure and its electric appliances inside.

The panels were installed by local solar contractors Southern Solar Systems, and the rest of the components were installed by Danny LaFavor and Ahmed Amer with Project XYZ.

Chad Wright, Program Coordinator for Nexus Energy Center, says, “We’re really excited about being able to show the public how solar actually works in a real home. In the tiny home, people can look at all the different components, like the batteries and the inverter, and really understand more about the process of powering their home with solar.”

To visit the Tiny Green Home, call Nexus Energy Center at 256-426-6941.

Efficiency, conservation are key topics at 2016 POWER-UP Energy Forum
Executive Director Ruchi Singhal served as a panelist for this year’s forum

The Alabama Environmental Council hosted its fourth annual POWER-UP Energy Forum on February 23rd at Birmingham-Southern College.

This year’s topic, Energy: Renewable and Efficient + Reliable and Economical, covered a wide array of energy areas including solar, efficiency, and more.

Nexus Executive Director Ruchi Singhal presented to attendees and told the story of how Nexus Energy Center is working to bring efficiency to the state of Alabama.

Participants showed lots of interest in the success of Nexus’s AlabamaWISEprogram, and were keen to hear Ruchi’s perspective on why efficiency is not only beneficial for homeowners, but good for our state economy as well.
